Freemasonry is one of the oldest social and charitable societies in the world, with over 6 million members globally, and in excess of some 250,000 in the United Kingdom. We celebrated 300 years of our history with a special Anniversary Tricentenary Meeting in October 2017 at the Royal Albert Hall, with over 4000 members from all parts of the country and abroad attending.
Four important principles govern our approach to life and others; they are: Integrity, Respect, Friendship and Charity.
Integrity and Respect Freemasonry encourages members to be of sound judgement, and to act respectfully and honestly in their dealings and relationships with others in the community, and to offer a helping hand to others less fortunate.
Friendship and Charity Freemasonry helps build lasting friendships amongst members, and unites people from all backgrounds and beliefs. We actively support many national and local charities, donating some £42m in 2019 to good causes, including many affected by the Coivd-19 crisis.
